Convent at St. Peter of Alcantara's, Port Washington

A little hidden by trees, but here's the convent at St. Peter of Alcantara's in Port Washington:

School Addition, St. Mary's Gate of Heaven, Ozone Park

Boegel and Allodi were the architects for the original school and convent in this parish, and then worked on this school addition building circa 1965:

The news clipping talks about how the building is a youth center, with college-size basketball court, and eight classrooms. CYO basketball still takes place in the building.

Convent at St. Dominic's, Oyster Bay

Another building where I can't get Street View. My guess is that the convent building is the one across the street from the high school -- I think it's the building with the "A" marker in this map:

St. Brigid's Chapel, Carle Place

St. Brigid's Chapel is now known as Our Lady of Hope Church, in Carle Place. It's another instance where I can't get a good Google Street View image. Take a look at the last image on this page for a good image of the side of this church.

The chapel was built in 1954. Our Lady of Hope was established as a parish in 1987.

Cure of Ars School, Merrick

Here's the school for Cure of Ars Parish in Merrick, NY. It's a fairly well obscured by trees:

The school opened in 1951 while Fr. William O'Keefe was pastor. The school closed in 1992 and became part of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and Convent, Astoria, NY

Here's what appears to be the former school for Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Astoria:

The news clipping I'm using notes that there was both a school and convent designed by William Boegel, and puts it in Long Island City. Despite the geographic differences between Long Island City and Astoria, this seems to be the school building from the newspaper clipping. The large white rectangle on the upper part of the building obscures the top of the cross that was a prominent feature of the original design.

The convent does not appear to be in existence anymore, although the quality of the news clipping makes it difficult to compare the convent against other buildings nearby the school.

The school is now the home of the Young Women's Leadership School of Astoria, a school for 6th-12th grade girls run by the NYC Department of Education.

The school was built in 1953-54. You can read more about the history of the school at the parish web site.

Here's Queen of Peace Church in Kew Gardens:

St. Agnes School, Greenport, NY

Again it's hard to get a good view of this school. The news clipping mentioned that the new building, built adjacent to the existing parish hall, had "four modern classrooms, with provisions made in the original structure for four additional classrooms as needed, a principal's office, teachers' room and a medical room."

The pastor sought $75,000 to help defray construction costs.

This church was completed circa 1965:

There is also a nearby convent, but I cannot get a Google Street View image of the building that I suspect is the convent.

St. Patrick's School, Fort Hamilton

The news clipping I have says that this was a school addition and a rectory:

The news clipping mentioned that they worked to raise $500,000 for this building.

St. Kevin's Church, Flushing

This is the first of three buildings in Flushing -- St. Kevin's Church:

The Google Street view doesn't really give it justice, but I could find no other good images online.

St. Vincent de Paul Church, Elmont

As you know, I have been attempting to publish Google Street View images of the various buildings that William Boegel designed. Google hasn't been as thorough in Elmont, NY, and so there's no good street view image of St. Vincent de Paul in Elmont, NY.

If you're interested in finding good images, take a look at this blog posting.

Once again, there's a nearby convent. This was built circa 1965 for the Sisters of St. Dominic in Amityville. At this point in his career, William Boegel was teamed up with Joseph Allodi.

Ground was broken for the school in late spring 1960, and was scheduled to be completed by September 1961. It was originally designed to be a school for girls, and was built to accommodate 1,100 students, and was to be staffed by the Sparkhill Dominican Sisters.

Looks like it was evening time, and the Google street view van was in a rush.

Building for the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, LI

This building is tucked away far enough that I can't get a good street view image, so we'll go with satellite instead:

Sisters of Charity Convent, Bellerose/Floral Park, Queens

Once again, where there's a school, there's a convent. This one was built for the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Dubuque, IA.

Incarnation Parish School and Convent, Bellaire/Queens Village

The original newspaper clipping listed these buildings as being in Bellaire. They're now listed as being in Queens Village. It's another example of a school building and an adjoining convent.

Here's the convent:

Starting Out

William Boegel was an architect who designed many buildings for the Roman Catholic Church in the 20th century. I have an archive of the buildings that he designed, and am hoping to post updated pictures of these buildings.

In the 1960's, William Boegel worked with Edward Allodi, and had their offices at 609 5th Avenue in Manhattan.
